Meet Chris Broadway- Founder of Broadway Music Academy | Creator of Broadway Beats

With over 40 years of musical experience, Chris Broadway brings a rare combination of performance excellence, technical mastery, and proven teaching ability to every lesson.

Chris’s musical journey began through extensive global travel, where he immersed himself in diverse styles and performance environments. In the late 1990s, he performed at Portland’s iconic Satyricon nightclub before making the metro Washington, D.C. area his permanent home in 1998. Since then, he has performed with formerly signed bands, independent artists, church ensembles, and emerging regional talent, developing a versatile and adaptive playing style shaped by real-world experience.

A Performer Who Teaches — and a Teacher Who Performs

Chris is not just a drummer — he is a musician who understands the full musical landscape.

His expertise includes:

  • Advanced drum technique (Moeller Method, limb independence, rudiments, phrasing, ghost notes, dynamic control)

  • Drum notation and charting

  • Time signatures, rhythmic subdivision, and musical feel

  • Playing confidently with a metronome and live ensemble

  • Live sound engineering and digital production using Ableton Live

  • Formal music theory study through University of Maryland

Beyond drums, Chris has over 40 years of piano experience and additional guitar proficiency, allowing him to teach rhythm and theory in a way that connects across instruments, not just behind the kit.

An Educator by Profession

Chris’s ability to teach complex musical concepts is strengthened by his background as a college Adjunct Instructor. There, he developed and delivered curriculum to learners, simplifying advanced subjects into clear, understandable instruction.

He understands that:

  • Every student learns differently.

  • Confidence grows through clarity.

  • Strong fundamentals create long-term success.

Whether working with homeschool students who need structured music education, private school students seeking deeper instruction, or adults pursuing a lifelong dream, Chris builds lessons that are engaging, systematic, and tailored to each individual.

What Students Gain

Students don’t just learn songs, they learn:

  • How rhythm works

  • How music is structured

  • How to read, interpret, and internalize notation

  • How to develop musical confidence and independence

  • How to play with precision and feel

Chris’s goal is simple: to develop capable, confident musicians who understand what they’re playing, not just how to imitate it.
